The Women, Infants and Children Program
WIC is a federally-funded health and nutrition program for women, infants,
and children. WIC helps families by providing checks for buying healthy
supplemental foods from WIC-authorized vendors, nutrition education,
and help finding healthcare and other community services. Participants
must meet income guidelines and be pregnant women, new mothers, infants
or children under age five. In California, 82 WIC agencies provide services
locally to over 1.4 million women, infants and children each month at over
600 sites throughout the State.
In accordance with Federal law and U.S. Department of Agriculture policy, this

What is WIC and Who Can It Help?
The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Supplemental Nutrition Program is a
federally-funded health and nutrition program for:
- Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or just had a baby
- Children under 5 years old (including foster children)
- Families with low to medium income (working families may qualify)
In accordance with Federal law and U.S. Department of Agriculture policy, WIC is
prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex,
age or disability.

Determine WIC Eligibility
There are four guidelines used to determine if an applicant is eligible to participate in WIC.

Category: An applicant must be in one of the categories served by WIC.
- Pregnant women
- Breastfeeding women (up to 1 year after delivery)
- Non-breastfeeding women (up to 6 months after the pregnancy)
- Infant (under 1 year old)
- Child (1 to 5 years of age)
- Residence: The applicant must live in Sutter County

Income: The applicant must be within WIC Guidelines
- Nutritional Need: The applicant must have a health problem (nutritional need) which can be improved with good nutrition.

A person can find out if they qualify for the WIC program by calling the
main office at 530 822-7224
(send a message). After a short screening
process, the person is given an enrollment appointment. Most participants are
enrolled and receive benefits within two weeks of the initial phone call.
