The Development Services Department was reorganized in July 2013, by consolidating the
existing Planning Services, Fire Services, Building Services,
Environmental Health and Certified Unified Program Agency functions with the former Public Works functions for
Engineering, Road and Water Resources. Under the direction of Sutter Animal Services Authority,
operations for Animal Services has been transferred to the City of Yuba City.
This department provides essentially three types of services: permitting services
(land use, planning, construction, food facility/other, environmental health, and
hazardous materials - CUPA),
fire management, and public infrastructure (engineering, road and water resources).

permitting, development and safety services to protect the health and well-being of
The Planning Commission acts in both an advisory role to the Board of Supervisors
for projects such as general plan amendments and rezones, and in an approving role for
use permits, variances and land divisions.

Development Services is implementing a 9/80 work schedule starting on August 7, 2017. The office will be closed every other Friday with the first department closure on Friday, August 18, 2017.
